Full concentration on Mars with SimyBall

One of the final 100 candidates of the Mars ONE Project prepares himself for Mars with the biofeedback game controller, SimyBall, which is available on Kickstarter.

Vienna, Austria - December 7, 2017 /PressCable/ —

In 2032, a space capsule will land on Mars. One of those on board could be Guenther Golob. He is the only Austrian among the final 100 candidates for the Mars ONE mission. And to mentally prepare himself for the adventure, he is using a new kind of biofeedback device, the SimyBall, which is available on Kickstarter.

Guenther Golob was born in 1975, is originally from Wolfsberg in Carinthia, and is currently living in Graz. But since 2015, he has only had one dream: to be one of the first human beings to populate Mars. And his chances are not bad. After undergoing multiple medical and psychological tests, he has ended up among the final 100 people competing for a ticket to Mars.

Survival strategies on Mars – Play the stress away

Guenther has found himself in somewhat of a standby mode since summer 2017: “The phone could ring anytime and I’ll get the information telling me that in 6 months, it will be time to spend days on end in the isolation chamber, oxygen deprivation, and STRESS.“

To increase chances of survival in space and on Mars, high levels of concentration and resilience are critical.

This is why Guenther recently visited the Austrian start-up company SimyLife in Vienna/St. Marx. Founder and CEO Andreas Chabicovsky comes from the field of top-class sports and has created a new kind of training concept: the SimyBall, a biofeedback device developed by SimyLife, allows the user to experience mental training up-close through interactive games and thus significantly improve personal resilience, concentration, and self-regulation.

“It could be vital for Guenther to have the right level of activation in stressful situations. Imagine the brain’s panic reaction if oxygen suddenly leaves the space capsule. In moments like that, calming down within seconds is essential for survival. Using the SimyApps, Guenther can train for similar situations and receive feedback from the virtual coach,” reports Andreas Chabicovsky.

Guenther Golob is motivated after the first few tests. Even after just a few games with the SimyBall, he has noticed improvements in his performance from concentrating.

Aside from mental fitness, physical fitness is also very important: “I exercise a lot – as I mentioned, cycling, swimming, and so on. I also enjoy walking in the hills – I recently just completed a hike in the mountains,” tells Guenther.

Jared Kushner's family firm accused of pushing out tenants

Jul 16, 2018

NEW YORK — The hammering and drilling began just months after Jared Kushner's family real estate firm bought a converted warehouse apartment building in the hip, Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. Tenants say it started early in the morning and went on until nightfall, so loud that it drowned out normal conversation, so violent it rattled pictures off the walls. So much dust wafted through ducts and under doorways that it coated beds and clothes in closets. Rats crawled through holes in the walls. Workers with passkeys barged in unannounced. Residents who begged for relief got a standard reply, "We have...

Malaysian lawmakers take oath, including indicted ex-leader

Jul 16, 2018

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Malaysian lawmakers took their oath in Parliament on Monday, including former Prime Minister Najib Razak, who has been charged in a massive corruption scandal that led to his coalition's electoral defeat. The swearing-in ceremony of 221 lawmakers opened the first Parliament session after Najib's long-ruling coalition was ousted in May 9 elections, ushering in Malaysia's first change of power since independence from Britain in 1957. Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, the world's oldest leader at 93, made his return to Parliament for the first time in 15 years after ending his retirement to challenge Najib over the...

From jail, Pakistan's ex-PM Sharif appeals his sentence

Jul 16, 2018

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan's jailed former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appealed his 10-year prison sentence on Monday, his party spokeswoman said, just days after returning to the country ahead of parliament elections later this month. Violence has escalated in the run-up to the balloting, with horrific attacks over the weekend killing 153 people, including a provincial assembly candidate during an election rally in southwestern Baluchistan province. Sharif was sentenced in absentia on July 6 over his family's purchases of luxury apartments in London. If the judge grants the appeal, Sharif could be released on bail, pending his retrial. Maryam Aurangzeb, a...

Amid investigations and tensions, Trump-Putin going 1-on-1

Jul 16, 2018

HELSINKI — With rattled world capitals watching, President Donald Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin are ready to go one-on-one in a summit that plays out against a backdrop of fraying Western alliances, a new peak in the investigation into Russian election meddling and fears that Moscow's aggression may go unchallenged. Monday's meeting was condemned in advance by members of Congress from both parties after the U.S. indictment last week of 12 Russian military intelligence officers accused of hacking Democrats in the 2016 election to help Trump's presidential campaign. Undeterred, the American president is set to go face-to-face with Putin, the...

Afghan official: Taliban kill 7 police in eastern province

Jul 16, 2018

KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban stormed a police checkpoint in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province and killed seven policemen, a provincial official said Monday. The attack took place the previous night in the district of Ghani Kahil, said the provincial police chief, Ghulam Sanayee Stanikzai. Five Taliban fighters were killed in the attack, he said. Stanikzai also said that in Khogyani district, also in Nangarhar province, a government airstrike on Sunday night left 20 Taliban fighters dead. There was no statement from the Taliban on either the Ghani Kahil attack or the airstrike. Earlier on Sunday, a suicide bomber on foot...
