Aiming for a future free from identity theft, VeriME - a blockchain based, decentralized digital identity verification platform, has entered into a partnership with WeShop, Asia’s premier cross-border retail import-buying facilitation brand, to provide them with smooth and secure customer verification and authentication services.

This move, which was announced by company officials on Monday, 4th December, came shortly after VeriME successfully closed a deal with Ngan Luong, Vietnam’s largest online payment gateway, in the beginning of November.

Speaking on this partnership, WeShop Global Group’s CEO, Ms. Dao Lan Huong said, “The global fraud rates have risen substantially. With this partnership, our company aims to safeguard our merchants as well as facilitate smooth onboarding processes for new businesses”.

Identity theft, an issue which spiked sharply around a year back affecting 15 million citizens of the U.S alone, has caused considerable tension within the e-commerce sector. A study conducted on merchants across various e-commerce platforms found that 71 percent of fraud on any e-commerce store was related to  identity theft followed by account theft and phishing in the second and third places respectively.

That being said, identity theft isn’t the only problem bothering merchants online. There is the issue of transaction abandonment, which according to a study in U.K., is causing merchants to lose around 67% of their sales. This study, conducted on 19,000 people found that 21 percent of the consumers abort transactions due to lengthy buying processes, while  18 percent abort due to delays in payment processing.

Commenting on this partnership, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, Co-Founder of VeriME,  said, “VeriME currently has around 15 Partners in Vietnam piloting our KYC and Authentication products. Our aim is to provide seamless, cost-effective and most innovative KYC and Authentication services using decentralized blockchain technology to millions of Users and Partners in the APAC region”.

Aside from their partnership with WeShop, the company also announced their collaboration with Moin, South Korea’s blockchain based cross-border remittance service provider. Moin, a company started in the year 2016 by Ian Suh, a software engineer at Samsung, offers its customers international money transfer services which bypass all financial middlemen involved, thereby saving them heavy transfer fees.

“We are currently in discussions with Payment Gateways, Remittance companies, Insurance, Marketplaces and other businesses that are in need of KYC and Payment Authentication solutions in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, India, and China. Our strategy is to penetrate into high-density Asian Markets in the coming 12-18 months and bring VeriME’s blockchain solution in the hands of every mobile phone subscriber” added Sanjeev Kumar.

VeriME is a Singapore based Fintech Startup offering blockchain based digital identity verification service (VaaS - Verification as a Service) which ensures that the user authentication and verification process isn’t reliant on any third party acting as a mediator.

Trump Jr: 'Nonsense' that family's profiting from presidency

Feb 21, 2018

NEW DELHI — Donald Trump Jr. says any talk that his family is profiting from his father's presidency is "nonsense" as he kicked off a highly publicized visit to India to promote real estate deals that bear his family's name. The eldest son of President Donald Trump arrived in India on Tuesday to meet the promoters and buyers of Trump brand luxury homes in the country, raising concerns that using the name of the American president to promote business ventures internationally is tricky ethical territory. But Trump Jr. told an Indian television channel that his family was actually missing out...

Vonn 3rd in last Olympic DH; her pal Goggia of Italy wins

Feb 21, 2018

JEONGSEON, South Korea — Lindsey Vonn knew that the bronze medal she earned Wednesday came in her final Olympic downhill, the signature event of her singular career. She knew that, but she didn't have an easy time processing it. That's why the words "probably" and "most likely" kept slipping into her sentences. Why she marked the occasion by posing with dozens of folks for a group photo near the finish line. Why she engaged in a series of warm, lengthy hugs — with her sisters; with U.S. coaches; with the winner, her good friend Sofia Goggia of Italy; with the...

Florida shooting survivors in capital, demand action on guns

Feb 21, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Students who survived the Florida school shooting prepared to flood the Capitol Wednesday pushing to ban the assault-style rifle used to kill 17 people, vowing to make changes in the November election if they can't persuade lawmakers to change laws before their legislative session ends. About 100 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students arrived at a Tallahassee high school to extended applause late Tuesday after a 400-mile (640-kilometer) trip on three buses. They told the 500 students and parents waiting for them that they are fighting to protect all students. "We're what's making the change. We're going...

Storm blocks road, causes other disruptions in New Zealand

Feb 21, 2018

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — Mudslides blocked the only road to a small New Zealand town Wednesday after a powerful Pacific storm caused disruptions across parts of the country. The 1,000 tourists and 5,000 locals in Takaka are not entirely trapped, but would have to use a boat, helicopter or small plane to leave town now or wait a week or more before the road is cleared and repaired. The storm that hit late Tuesday was the remnants of Cyclone Gita, which last week ripped through the Pacific nation of Tonga, destroying homes, churches and the historic Parliament House. The winds...

States could face severe flooding, other problems in Midwest

Feb 21, 2018

CHICAGO — Several states could see severe flooding and other weather-related problems amid a storm system that has brought rain, ice and snow to the Midwest and Great Plains. The weather already was blamed for several fatalities, including the deaths of four people in a crash in Nebraska. Melting snow and heavy rain prompted the National Weather Service to issue flood warnings for parts of northern Illinois and flood watches for central Illinois. The fear of a rising Illinois River forced the evacuation late Tuesday of the LaSalle County Nursing Home in Ottawa. In the Chicago area, as much as...
